Our Chief Medical Director, Jeffrey Ross, M.D. utilizes his extensive research experience in investigations across over development phases (Phase I-IV), treatment settings (inpatient and outpatient), duration (short and long-term), trial design (open, blinded, acute therapy, relapse prevention), and intervention (psychotherapy and psychopharmacology) to lead Great Lakes’ team of board-certified doctors, nurses, and clinical researchers to excel in the studies of investigational medications, food products, and supplements for the treatment of chronic diseases, Alzheimer’s Disease, depression, vaccine research, rheumatology, and COVID-19.

Organization History & Key Milestone Dates:

2013: Great Lakes Clinical Trials was incorporated. Dr. Jeffery Ross was named medical director.  

2014: Great Lakes Clinical Trials had first patient randomized into a dairy cognition study.  

2015: Memory Care Coalition of Chicago was formed. Great Lakes Clinical Trials, Arlington Heights, IL opened.  

2016: Dr. Manish Jain head of Ravenswood Rheumatology joins Great Lakes Clinical Trials.  

2017: Joined Global Alzheimer’s Platform (GAP) foundation.  Dr. Rupal Trivedi joins Great Lakes Clinical Trials.   

2018: Great Lakes establishes Alzheimer’s Awareness Day officially sanctioned by mayoral proclamation.  

2018: Steve Satek recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of Chicago’s Notable LGBTQ Executives. 

2020: COVID-19 PANDEMIC – Great Lakes Clinical Trials pivoted to lead the fight for covid research treatment, vaccines, observational, and diagnostics. Opened a second location; Clark St. Clinic, to see Covid-19 patients and continue regular business operations.   

2020: Great Lakes Clinical Trials, Gurnee, IL opened.

Why Was Great Lakes Founded?

After many years in the clinical research industry, Steve Satek saw Chicago as a vastly underserved market for clinical trials. Steve Satek founded Great Lakes Clinical Trials in 2014 to make clinical study opportunities more convenient and comfortable for patients.  This meant providing easily accessible locations within Chicago’s neighborhood communities, Andersonville and Ravenswood, and in the surrounding towns of Arlington Heights and Gurnee, Illinois.  Creating a welcoming atmosphere for patients of all backgrounds, ages, and sexual orientations was critical for Satek’s vision of a healthy, happy, and informed community, with a strong quality of life, due to advancements of  medicine, nutrition, devices, and behavioral therapies.
